Come celebrate Canada Day at the Museum of History

Gatineau, Quebec, June 26, 2015 — Once again, the Canadian Museum of History is the place to celebrate Canada’s birthday. Explore Canada’s stories and symbols through its exhibitions, collections and architecture, while enjoying the best view of the fireworks in the National Capital Region.

On Wednesday, July 1, Museum admission is free from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Join us for some of the family activities planned for Canada Day or visit our current special exhibitions.

Family Fun with Music
3:30 and 6 p.m.
Grand Hall
Canada Day is a fun family day at the Museum, and we’re celebrating in style with songs and dancing! Folk group Le Grand Portage and their dance caller will have you up on your feet in no time as you discover — or rediscover — the toe-tapping traditional tunes and dance steps of early French-Canadian music. Young or old, two left feet or dancing fool, everyone is invited to participate in these bilingual performances.

Family Fun with Crafts
10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Canadian Children’s Museum Kaleidoscope Gallery
There’s fun to be had in the Children’s Museum, where kids can express their Canadian pride through crafts. We’ll show you how to make your own braided friendship bracelet and how to customize a Canada Day headband with maple leaves, ribbons and more.

The Greeks – Agamemnon to Alexander the Great: Adventures with Odysseus
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Special Exhibitions Gallery
Take the exhibition The Greeks – Agamemnon to Alexander the Great to a whole new level with a game of Snakes and Ladders based on Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. You will experience plenty of ups and downs as you move your “ship” over land and sea, following the meandering route Odysseus and his crew took as they journeyed home to Ithaca. Along the way, volunteer interpreters will recount some of the legendary Greek hero’s adventures and misadventures during the 10 years he spent wandering after the fall of Troy. This interactive board game is a great way to experience the exhibition and learn about Homer’s fantastical tale with family and friends. Which of you will be the first to make it safely to the end?
