Sunday, February 19
Grand Hall, Resource Centre, Canadian Children’s Museum
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Celebrate a banner day with a flag-based scavenger hunt, flag crafts, and a chance to hear the story of how Canada’s Maple Leaf flag came to be.
Celebrate the 52nd birthday of the Maple Leaf flag with a banner day of fun in honour of National Flag of Canada Day. Find 10 Canadian flags in the Museum. Earn a flag button by completing a scavenger hunt for the Maple Leaf and the flags of other countries. Get crafty —and patriotic — by making your own Canadian flag bunting to take home. Contribute to a big Canadian flag quilt by decorating a piece of fabric for our onsite quilter to incorporate into the design. Meet Robert Labonté, the flag master at Parliament hill, and listen to Joan O’Malley talk about sewing the prototype for the Maple Leaf flag. You’ll even have a chance to see her sewing machine, which will be a key object in the Canadian History Hall when it opens on July 1.
Please note that all events are subject to change.
