It is very rare to find figures of animals, such as the dog in this example, and rarer still to find the figure of a person on earthenware in Canada. Few such personal artifacts have survived. This example has a fun and folksy feeling. It was made with considerable care and attention to detail, with the female resting her head on the pillow, the dog on the blanket and the decoration applied to all sides of the bed. The dog and the blanket lift off to reveal a storage container inside the bed.
