Step into an underwater archaeologist’s shoes to find artifacts from the long-lost Franklin Expedition, and learn how to search for evidence beneath the waves.

What is it like to be an underwater archaeologist searching for the lost ships of the Franklin Expedition? Join Parks Canada scientists to learn more, and try out the equipment and techniques they used to find the artifacts on display in the exhibition Death in the Ice – The Mystery of the Franklin Expedition.

Use gloves and other equipment to record information on the locations of replica artifacts, hidden in our simulation tank. Then compare your findings with real data recorded by Parks Canada archaeologists during their successful quest to find the wrecks of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror in 2014 and 2016. Archaeology buffs, Franklin enthusiasts, and families with children ages 8 and up won’t want to miss this chance to wade into the fascinating world of archaeology under the sea.
