The Barr Brothers | Queens of the Breakers

Plan Your Visit

Don’t miss this exciting concert by one of North America’s most innovative bands!

To create their third full-length album, the three core members of the Barr Brothers travelled miles of snowy roads to hole themselves up in a remote cottage on the edge of Saint-Zénon, in Quebec’s Lanaudière region. Leaving both sheet music and lyrics behind, and without any particular concept in mind, the trio equipped every room in the cottage with microphones and amplifiers, cranked the volume up to 11 and made some noise. During their seven days in rural isolation — far from spouses, children, and the bustle and distractions of city life — they spent hours improvising and exploring sound with their instruments. The result is the recently released Queen of the Breakers.

Over the past few years, the Barr Brothers have become associated with a modern-Americana style. Their music is driven by the polyrhythmic percussion of Andrew Barr, guitar by Brad Barr, and innovative harp riffs from Sarah Pagé, who is redefining the harp in contemporary music. Bass guitar, pedal steel, keyboards and brass instruments also ebb and flow throughout.

Combining genres that range from gentle folk ballads to dense North African improvisations to classic rock and roll, the Barr Brothers continue to ignite and enchant audiences with an approach that blends solid technique with musical flights of fancy.
