Hooked on Rugs

Showcases the history and richness of this popular folk art form.

Whether they are for practical or decorative use, conventional or whimsical design, simple or elaborate, made of “rags” or wool yarn, the work of a craftsperson or renown artist, hooked rugs have decorated the floors and walls of our homes for almost two hundred years. The first hooked rugs appeared in Atlantic Canada and New England in the early 19th century.
