Culture Days 2017: Delve into the Archives

Plan Your Visit

Celebrate Canada’s cultural memories by learning how a wax cylinder phonograph works; exploring our archives of print, text and audiovisual material; and making your own memory box.

Celebrate Culture Days and learn how and why the Museum preserves Canada’s cultural memories. See — and hear — firsthand how a wax cylinder phonograph works, and listen to some of Canada’s earliest recorded songs during special 15-minute presentations (English at 11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.; French at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.). Adults can delve into the Museum’s Archives with Collection Specialists, exploring an extensive repository of print, photographic and audiovisual material, while also learning how archives work. Younger visitors can make a memory box to start preserving their own cultural material at home! Culture Days are an annual event celebrating creativity across Canada, with three days of free, collaborative activities highlighting the importance of our cultural heritage.
