By Howard Milne; Sundridge, Ontario; early twentieth century; painted wood, metal; 104 x 47.5 x 29.5 cm CMC 74-594

Howard Milne was a farmer and trapper who made extra money as a sign painter. His lifelong hobby was painting and carving. A deeply religious man, he felt strongly about his country's allegiances and about personal friendship, as the flags, clasped hands, and national animals on this coatrack testify.
