A Tribute to His Father

A design fit for a king

Well aware of The Prince of Wales' ( future George V) interest and expertise in philately, in 1902 the Government of Canada invited him to design a stamp honouring his father, Edward VII. Guided by his philatelic advisor, John Tilleard, The Prince chose a three-quarter portrait of The King closely cropped by an oval. The stamp also features Tudor crowns in the upper corners and maple leaves next to the values in the bottom corners.
