Civil uniform hat, 1924-1933
Worn by Francis Alexander Anglin, Chief Justice of Canada, 1924 1933, for official occasions. The civil uniform, including gold-embroidered coat, was codified in Queen Victoria's time. Headwear (First Class) had to consist of: "Black Beaver Cocked Hat, Black Silk Cockade, White Ostrich Border Feather, Treble Gold Bullion Loop, with Tassel and Hangers." Since the Second World War, less formal attire has been required.
