Golf Spreads Out

Although it appears that golf may have been played in the American colonies in the 1700s, if it did, it died out there and was not re-introduced until the nineteenth century. Golf spread quickly around the world in the 1800s, and clubs sprang up in India, South Africa, Egypt, Hong Kong, and Australia. The first recorded game of golf to have been played in North America took place in 1826 at Priest's Farm, now part of Montreal.
