Painted to commemorate John Cabot's 1497 landing in North America, the Canadian Historical Dinner Service was presented to Ishbel, Countess of Aberdeen, for her contributions to Canadian life. Part of the set was exhibited at the Canadian Museum of Civilization a century later as a tribute to the exploits of the explorer, the achievements of the artists and the Women's Art Association of Canada, and the enduring legacy of Lady Aberdeen.
