1902
Born in November on Nottingham Island,
near Baffin Island (Nunavut) and spends
much of his youth hunting in the area of
Cape Dorset/Kingait.

1922
Marries Annie, with whom he has seven children,
of whom only two daughters survive: Udluriak and Kooyoo. Annie dies of tuberculosis in 1939.

1930s
Takes his first photograph at the request of
a tourist.

1941
Begins to live with Aggeok, his collaborator
and later his second wife.

1942
Acquires his first camera and begins an
intensive period of work.

1945
Falls ill with tuberculosis, which plagues
him throughout the 1950s.

1960s
Concentrates his work on drawing, painting and
carving.

1973
Dies on September 30 in Cape Dorset/Kingait.

1975
People from Our Side, including Pitseolak’s
oral history and selected photographs, is
published posthumously.
