A Childhood in Spandet

Chris Bennedsen was born on September 26, 1930. He was named for King Christian X, Denmark’s ruling sovereign, whose sixtieth birthday fell on the same date as Chris’s. Chris—known for most of his life to friends and family as Kedde—was Frederik and Anna’s second child. His brother Sigvard was born in 1934, and his sister Ella came along in 1944. The eldest son, Ole, drowned in a local marl pit in 1938.
