Advertising in Britain, 1920s

In the 1920s, Immigration and Colonization officials distributed twin pamphlets in Britain: Eastern Canada and Canada West.

Behind the curtain of golden wheat, this prairie landscape on the front cover of Canada West, ca.1925 bears little resemblance to pre-War prairie scenes. Western Canada is promoted as a region of well-established farming communities where families are linked to each other, and the outside world, by the telephone, the automobile, and the train.

A photograph of "a typical railway station" in Canada West shows a large station at Dauphin, Manitoba, with grain elevators lining the tracks. "A typical school in a Canadian Prairie Town" is portrayed as a substantial brick building.
