"Undesirable" immigrants were sent back to their departure points, at the expense of the steamship company that brought them. Those barred included people suffering from a range of mental and physical afflictions, and prostitutes and their procurers.

 





Staff in the Winnipeg Immigration Office poised and ready to deal with the hundreds of immigrants who passed through this central information and distribution point on a daily basis.
