Jivya Some Mashe is an innovative painter from
Maharashtra's Warli tribe. His style of painting is traditionally practiced
by Warli women, who paint the outside walls of their houses with white rice
paste.
Using a fig tree needle as a brush, Mr. Mashe creates works on paper evoking
the Warli world Among the Warli, the act of painting is closely tied to
religious beliefs and rituals, and is reserved only for the most talented
artists.
