From Gaotang County, Shandong Province. He was a master of large-scale idea-sketch painting and he was fond of using subjects such as flowers and birds, bushes, bamboo, plum blossoms, orchids, chrysanthemums, stones, fish and eagles. His heavy strokes and broad-brush approaches enabled him to develop a new style for the idea-sketch type of painting. He won high praise during his numerous exhibitions inside and outside China. He was a Director of the Federation of Chinese Artists and a committee member of the Chinese Painting Research Institute.
