Archaeological Digs at Qumran

Between 1951 and 1956, digs led by Roland de Vaux, of France, at the Qumran site turned up buildings that pointed to a busy community, with a meeting hall, a large kitchen, a copying room, two pottery kilns and an elaborate water supply system. Strangely, though, there were no traces of residences. Did the members of the community sleep in the nearby caves, where some objects were found? In tents? Upstairs in the buildings?
