People from the Plains and Plateau Native communities have been closely involved in the development of this exhibition. Over the past six years, several hundred people have shared stories of their lives, hardships and victories. Photographs and objects belonging to them and their families are found throughout the exhibition.
To give Native people the opportunity to talk about their own history, Plains and Plateau communities in Canada and the United States were invited to develop their own exhibit. Three communities responded to the invitation. We are proud to present exhibits from the Lakota of Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan; the Nuptadi/Nueta, Hidatsa and Sahnish of Fort Berthold Reservation, New Town, North Dakota; and the Okanagan of British Columbia.
