At Easter 1917, the Canadian Corps and British troops captured Vimy Ridge, held by the German army, and the site of previous losses by Allied troops. In the four-day battle for the “hinge of the Hindenburg line,” 3,598 Canadians were killed and another 7,004 were wounded.
