This handgun was found in the pocket of Fenian activist Patrick Whelan. It was part of the evidence used to convict him of the murder of Thomas D’Arcy McGee, committed on April 7, 1868. McGee was a close associate of Sir John A. Macdonald and a Father of Confederation.
