Northwest Coast frontlet

Canadian Museum of History, VII-C-1811, IMG2008-0583-0226-Dm

Frontlets were worn by members of high-ranking families on ceremonial occasions. In this frontlet from the Eagle clan, the design of an eagle and other birds’ faces represents the crest of the wearer’s family. Abalone, highly valued by West Coast First Peoples, accentuates the eyes and teeth.
