West Coast artist Emily Carr designed and hooked this rug using old soldiers’ uniforms which she bleached, cut into narrow strips and dyed. Carr died on March 2, 1945 in Victoria, BC. She was one of the preeminent Canadian painters of the first half of the 20th century and one of the few major female artists in North America or Europe of that period.
