The Museum has just opened Vikings, an acclaimed exhibition that sheds new light on one of the most storied — if misunderstood — cultures in world history. Drawing on the latest archaeological discoveries, Vikings takes visitors beyond the one-dimensional stereotype of marauding barbarians and reveals an ancient Scandinavian culture of surprising refinement, complexity and achievement.

In this video, Gunnar Anderrson, Senior Curator at The Swedish History Museum discusses why Vikings has attracted over 1.3 million visitors worldwide and describes the significance behind two precious artifacts in the exhibition.

Vikings is on display at the Canadian Museum of History until April 17, 2016.

The exhibition was developed by The Swedish History Museum in Sweden, in partnership with MuseumsPartner in Austria, and is presented at the Canadian Museum of History.
